Finally! Some good news out of North Korea! The two American journalists have finally been released and they're heading home! It looks like former president Bill Clinton was behind much of the efforts though:

Here is the article:

http://www.cnn.com/2009/WORLD/asiapcf/08/04/nkorea.clinton/index.html?iref=mpstoryview

There is also video of this from ABC:

What do you think of this news? What do you think of Bill Clinton's involvement?

Any country that bans the word 'God' is a disaster waiting to happen.

I quickly looked through those articles and the word 'God' is not banned in North Korea. According to your last link:

Quote:
Kim Il Sung the “Great Leader” has been exalted and revered as a god to be followed with obedience.

So therefore one can safely assume that all North Koreans are expected to accept Kim Il Sung as a God.

I just find the God thing to be ironic considering that SOUTH Korea is among the most Christian countries in the world! Rolling Eyes

No you're being too literal.

Indeed, Kim is regarded as a 'god', but there are different definitions of 'God'. One definition is religious, in that refering to an almighty omnipresent creator, and the other to a person or living being that dominates and reigns over all psychological and material things.

Kim is therefore regarded as the 'only god' in the latter respect.

Quote:
The word for God is banned and any belief in a higher power is considered a very serious crime.

Quote:
... religious activity is discouraged. The Word of God is banned in North Korea. Majority of the people have never heard the Word of God, seen a church, or heard about Jesus Christ. Many Christians are in prison camps because of the faith in Jesus Christ. The people have been taught that Christians are “crazy people”.

Quote:
...the regime severely restricts religious observance, with the cult of personality created by national founder Kim Il Sung and enjoyed by his son, current leader Kim Jong Il, serving as a virtual state religion. Those who violate religious restrictions are often accused of crimes such as spying or anti-government activities.

You will also note that the quote you highlighted uses the decapitalised word 'god' and not 'God', which is often a grammatical technique used to differentiate between the two definitions.

Well, North Korea is hardly known as a famous tourist destination so you wouldn't be missing much by avoiding the country altogether.
