Calm down gary! I was making an observation based on soultaker777's "generalization" comment you were PO'd by. That's all.
Way to fly off the handle! I'll leave you alone then.......
EDIT:
BTW: In certain countries they still have the death penalty for murder. How many of them actually use it????? Just because that's the MAXIMUM penalty doesn't mean they'll use it.

I didn't fly off the handle; I was just clarifying how it appeared that soultaker777's side note wasn't related to capital punishment since those "crimes" wouldn't even result in prison time in the US.

I thought that by setting my side note in parentheses it would be clearly understood that the statement I was trying to make in that paragraph was not directly related to the topic of capital punishment, but there is a link (albeit maybe a weak one). Perhaps I should've used only the 2-3 parking space observation, since that's the one for which you actually could (but not necessarily will) get ticketed for illegal parking. So I'll try to clarify:
- Those two things I mentioned are just two of the more serious, common everyday offenses against the law or safety/common sense/etc. There are other less obnoxious things, some actually illegal, and others not, that also go on. The point I wanted to drive home was a general lack of respect for the law, one that you could expect to see out of many (not all, and "all" was never used in that paragraph) Chinese people.
- The expected general lack of respect for the law is the concept which serves as the foundation of harsh punishment in Chinese society, and in turn why the death penalty is accepted. The common link and emphasis is on "general lack of respect for the law".
I hope this clarification is sufficient.

The point I want to express is that this lack of respect for the law is by no means limited to Chinese people as I have seen this lack of respect in people of other races. The previous messages have ONLY mentioned this lack of respect among the Chinese or Chinese descendants. |
