I love this song! It has a great melody and they have such great voices. Tonight I looked up the lyrics and was surprised at what they were. Granted I only heard part of the song in the movie Accepted(which is also a great favorite of mine). However, those lyrics stir some incredible pictures for me. I'm just wondering if anyone else has thoughts on this song? This may make an interesting topic for discussion!
Say, hey!
Hear the sound of the falling rain
Coming down like an Armageddon flame (Hey!)
The shame
The ones who died without a name
Hear the dogs howling out of key
To a hymn called "Faith and Misery" (Hey!)
And bleed, the company lost the war today
I beg to dream and differ from the hollow lies
This is the dawning of the rest of our lives
On holiday
Hear the drum pounding out of time
Another protester has crossed the line (Hey!)
To find, the money's on the other side
Can I get another Amen? (Amen!)
There's a flag wrapped around a score of men (Hey!)
A gag, a plastic bag on a monument
I beg to dream and differ from the hollow lies
This is the dawning of the rest of our lives
On holiday
(Hey!)
(Say, hey!)
(3,4)
"The representative from California has the floor"
Sieg Heil to the president Gasman
Bombs away is your punishment
Pulverize the Eiffel towers
Who criticize your government
Bang bang goes the broken glass and
Kill all the fags that don't agree
Trials by fire, setting fire
Is not a way that's meant for me
Just cause, just cause, because we're outlaws yeah!
I beg to dream and differ from the hollow lies
This is the dawning of the rest of our lives
I beg to dream and differ from the hollow lies
This is the dawning of the rest of our lives
This is our lives on holiday |

I do like this song, but I feel that Greenday have lost that something that made them so special. I don't know what it, they're just not punk any more:(
Wait, are you saying that you've not actually haerd the song?
Go and listen to it man. Uncle Samurai advises it;) _________________

I liked it but then I like many of Green Day's songs. It is on the American Idiot album so it's a bit more political than some of their earlier singles. |

they were never truly punk man.....just wanna be punk like offspring....and no, im not bitter, i actually like both bands, but true punk is the likes of the sex pistols of the 70s....U.S. bands such as those and avril lavigne get so wrongly named punk its rediculous |

I wouldn't call Holiday THAT old! Green Day have been around since 1987! Holiday was just on their previous album American Idiot which was released in 2004. That doesn't seem that long ago considering their first two albums were released in 1990 and 1992. |

First time I heard this song on the album, I knew it was going to be a single. Probably the greatest Green Day song of the last 10 years. I really loved some of the stuff they did on "Nimrod", though, that album was so unpredictable. Do they even still have singles anymore? _________________ http://www.youtube.com/NintendoCapriSun |

I actually hate Green Day, and I live within about a mile of Billy Joe.
But if I had to listen to five of their songs (against my will of course), Holiday would probably be up there. _________________ My AG Profile |
