I thought it might be a good feature to get more people participating in each tournament by providing a different tiers of rankings.
1st: 7 points
2nd: 3 points
3rd: 1 point
this ensures that people that participate in many tournaments would be somewhat compensated for their efforts, and while not being the best, still getting a consolation prize for being the second best. This would allow the best players to still hit the top of the charts, but the runners up to gain tiny boots, that can't really be compared to the people always taking first, but can be compared against the fight for second, or third as the case may be.
(to maintain the current all time scores, you would just have to multiply them by 7, or as a bonus by 10)
Could take it a step further and divey up the credits where the leader gets 3/5 parts credits ( 4/5 parts if only 2 participants) and 1/5 parts for both second and third. |

Sounds good to me too.
I 'never' enter tournaments, cos just seems I'm fated never to WIN them. That would indeed offer some incentive to others like me.
Neat idea, Khelos. |

I dont understand what this means Khelos.
The rest seems like a good idea but i'd really like to see tourneys with entrys of minimum 300 credits because then people have to put 'something on the line' to gain more.
Its all our credits can be spent on (entering tourneys) or could other features be introduced to spend credits on? (e.g. = 2500 credits for an exlusive new avatar or 5000 credits for a sig with the users name in a pic?) just an idea...... _________________

@ neeraffa
The portion of my message that you quoted would refer to the "total wins" column for all time scores.
If you implemented the new system, instead of counting wins, you would be counting points. Points earned for ranking achieved during a tournament. So the numbers wouldn't reflect their efforts unless you converted them.
I suggested that the "total wins" be converted into a "total points" column, where previous records are to be multiplied by 7 (the maximum allotted points in the new system for a first place win) or by 10 as a bonus during the conversion into a new system. All credits would remain the same basis as before, with no real multiplication aspect happening to it.
As for your credit store, sounds rather logical. But What we could actually buy would need to be worked out. Possibly a ton of credits (like 100k or 10k credits for $10) or maybe a t-shirt / gaming cap, or you could offer specific site perks like you mentioned. But I really don't know because what would be in the store would be up to the Boss. |

I like khelos's idea in general, but I do believe that it should still be a winner-take-all system when there are a low number of participants. If a tournament points system were to be implemented, I think it should be winner-take-all for 3 or fewer participants (so no 2nd or 3rd place points awarded in those circumstances), top 2 pay when 4 or 5 participate (no 3rd place points), and top 3 pay when at least 6 people enter the tournament. This way, a person can't just look at the list, see that only 1 or 2 people have entered, and say "Oh look... I enter and I automatically get free points towards tournament standing, even if I score zero!" (Searching through the tournament archives will show that there have been quite a few of these 1-or-2-person tournaments.)
I'm also in favor of neeraffa's idea of raising the minimum buy-in per tournament, although I would suggest that there be a limited number of "introductory tournaments" each month (for the benefit of newbies still making their way around the site and wanting to try tournaments out) offered at low stakes (100 credits or less buy-in). The majority of tournaments though - 300 credits minimum buy-in sounds good, maybe even 500 minimum. |

It does sound like a great idea. Without knowing the specifics yet though.
And like Neerafa I wished there were more high-ante games. |

You hit the nail right on the head man, that is how it started to be last month and it seemed to work out well (esp for you and me who won 2 each of the 1000 buy in tournments). I second (or third I guess with neeraffa) this motion |
