Neeraffa and I were exchanging PMs (Messages) here a couple of days ago, but I was surprised he then hadn't replied to my last one.
Unlike him!
But - today I happened to click on "Messages", and there WAS his reply, unread by me, along with another unread PM from someone else - both of them posted about 30 hours ago (and I've been on AB many times in that period, blissfully unaware).
Well, it's POSSIBLE I was alerted at the time, either by email and/or by the red dot and/or by a popup, but I'm not aware of such a thing, otherwise of COURSE I'd have gone and read them.
So, at last, I've been on the RECEIVING end of "PMs the recipients don't know they've received", which perhaps goes some way to explaining the other side of my query posted here ( http://www.arcadeboss.com/arcade-thread2086.html&highlight=unread ).
There obviously IS a problem with the current system - can I suggest surely the red dot should flash constantly UNTIL a person has NO more unread messages - THEN it might take weeks but eventually they would cotton on to it.
But obviously as is now there are many cases where people either miss the red dot that comes on only for one session, or perhaps in some cases it actually doesn't - so they'll never know they have messages, and in fact noone is ever able to communicate with them this way (or any other way except Shout Box, that such people probably don't look at anyway).
I understand that some people may not like getting messages, but I doubt if that extends to deliberately not even opening any - I'd guess that in 90-99% of cases these users would be happy to get messages but are simply unaware that any such exist.
