Is it a matter of national pride? In science, results are always named after scientist in your own country, even if some foreign scientist was the original discoverer.
But of course it takes more than that for children to associate fire with Newton. |

Taken from the opening of the article:
| Quote: | One in 10 children thinks the Queen invented the telephone, a survey of children's science knowledge suggests.
Others gave credit for the invention to Charles Darwin and Noel Edmonds. |
Emphasis on the bold parts for maximum potential amusement. Once I read it, it gave me a couple of images in my head... (1) a UK "Deal or No Deal" episode with kids as the contestants and the banker offering a deal of a "Noel Edmonds-invented telephone autographed by the host himself", and (2) a contestant on "Are You Smarter Than Your 10-Year Old" failing due to them going with their son or daughter's answer of Noel Edmonds as the telephone's inventor.
Hopefully neither one of these moments ever actually occurs on TV, as that would be extremely embarrassing for whoever the unlucky contestants turn out to be. |

| Hmmm only 1000 students were asked thee questions. I don't think it's much to work with, too much variation possible. |

1000 kids is a good sample size as long as the kids surveyed were taken from all over the the uk and not one region |
