| Its a OK system didnt own it myself but my nephew had it he always beat me at the smash bros. I did have the first one bask in the 80's that was such a such a steeping stone from the Atari. |

It's a good console but it wasn't the best even in its own era. It was the first Nintendo console capable of 3D graphics and it was meant to be Nintendo's answer to the Sony Playstation.
I seem to recall the Sony Playstation easily surpassed the Nintendo 64 in software and hardware sales. Final Fantasy series, Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, Chrono Cross, Silent Hill series, Resident Evil series, Street Fighter collection, King of Fighters games were also all exclusively for the Playstation too. |

Playstation was really the first to use a disc which changed everything so they really can't be compared can they? |

No, Sony was NOT the first company to come up with a CD-ROM based alternative to cartridges. Sega came up with Mega-CD FIRST and then Nintendo tried to compete with them by coming up with another CD-ROM based console.
It was Nintendo's fault for deciding that they could make a THIRD console based around those expensive cartridges.  |

| gary, you have to admit though that Nintendo got even worse with going to disc....Gamecube was the worst of em all....to me nothing is as classic as the old 8 bit NES |

The disc part wasn't the problem. Nintendo just didn't do as good of a job marketing themselves to the developers as Sony did with its Playstation 2. Yes, the story about the original NES revolutionizing the video game market after the crash of 1983 is legendary but that was when there was hardly any competition. |

there typically isn't competition when you are the main creator, atari was no match for the Nintendo giant. I guess nintendo must have learned something though according to you because they sure marketed the Wii well, that thing has sold like crazy for 2 years |

There wasn't much competition because of the North American video game crash of 1983-1984. Atari was no match because it partly caused the aforementioned crash of those years. This is why those two years were also known as the Atari Débâcle. |
