LMAO! I read this story a few hours ago and I applauded the guy! The court system sucks and I've always been an advocate for Vigilante Justice. I love it when the "average joe" has a chance to hand out a little justice and does it! Great job to this guy!

If you feel that this is thread jacking then please delete.
Wow is right on that story good for him for defending himself and his property, depending on state here he can be charged with murder w/d/w. Sad that most U.S. laws protect criminals more then those that are innocent.
Hope justice will be severed correctly and swiftly on both cases...
I just got done reading this one its sad that those be hind it may not be charged
VICIOUS thugs who punched this man so hard he was left with HALF A HEAD have got off scot free.
Horrified Steve Gator had to have the front of his skull removed by stunned surgeons after his head was smashed against a pavement in the sickening attack.
And now the 26-year-old has been told that the teen attackers who disfigured him will escape justice after his case was dropped.
Steve, of Romford, Essex, was attacked after confronting one of the yobs who had been taunting him about his cousin.
Another of the violent louts hit him so hard that he was sent flying and struck his head on the path.
Steve plunged into a coma for two weeks as his shattered mum and distraught family kept a bedside vigil at Queen's Hospital, Romford.
His brain quickly began swelling and surgeons were forced to remove the front half of his skull just hours after he was admitted.
Grief-stricken mum Nina Gator was warned her son had just a terrifying 15 per cent chance of survival.
Two days later cops charged a pair of teenage boys with the savage attack which shocked the neighbourhood.
Steve, who has had to quit his job, was left seriously brain damaged and now suffers frequent seizures, has difficulty talking, and his memory is seriously impaired.
Mrs Gator, who is his main carer, last night blasted the shock move.
The 47-year-old said: "I can't believe it. Everyone is entitled to their day in court."
CPS lawyers claim they needed more proof before going ahead with the case.
But Mrs Gator stormed: "Our boy is walking around with half a head - what more evidence do they need?
"His sparkle is totally gone. He used to be so independent but he can't work any more and he can't drive."
She added: "He's got half a head and he's completely lost his confidence.
"There's absolutely nothing protecting his brain now it's just under his skin." |

Any town over a population of 5000 needs to have a vigilante squad. I'm not advocating killing people, but a severe beating by them 1 or 2 times might help to quell the thought of repeat offending or even first time offenders. The government isn't going to listen to the people about a broken justice system. I say it's time to show them it's broken and how we, the people, intend to deal with the situation. _________________ Since the Meek shall inherit the Earth then Canada is destined to rule the World! |

Those pictures are shocking lonny and your right ICBM some kind of threat from something other than the 'inconsistant' government could do the trick, but i cant see this happening or being tolerated by the powers that be........ _________________ BOTM JULY 2009 107 1st places

It's already happening all over the place. You just rarely hear of it.
Look at this way...
Gangs have a heirarchy. Within that gang there are rules and a certain conduct. Break a rule or go outside of the accepted conduct and what happens? The same is true about jails. What I'm suggesting is that very same idea. We already have the rules in place. We just need the type of enforcement that those 2 examples use. Heck, I'd even advocate "an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth" philosophy in this day and age if I thought it would work. Back in ancient times this is what they did. It worked pretty well then. _________________ Since the Meek shall inherit the Earth then Canada is destined to rule the World! |

I agree completely with this statement. The ironic part is that the idiot burglar got released from prison just a few days before this happened! It looks like he would have been safer IN prison! |

| It's good to see that there are others who would agree with some form of expanded vigilantism in this day and age. I personally have advocated an expansion of the death penalty, as well as a speeding up of cases involving it since my days in high school. But given that governments all over the world are failing to deliver meaningful justice or deterrents to prevent repeat or would-be criminals, as these two articles have illustrated very well, expanded vigilantism seems to be the next best alternative. (Bernie Madoff would make another great example - for all that he's done and the harm that he's caused it's ridiculous that he's being allowed to live out the remainder of his life in a federal prison, funded by the taxpayer's dollar.) Some places have castle domain out there but for most towns and cities that would be far from adequate. |

What do you think of China's embrace of capital punishment and how it executes possibly thousands of prisoners each year? |

I have no problem with the Chinese people's support and acceptance of capital punishment. It dates back to at least 770 BC (if not earlier), during a time when it was assumed and accepted that people living then were naturally benefit-oriented and inclined to break the law in an unstable society, and that in order to preserve that society, heavy punishment was needed for lawbreakers. A shift away from the death penalty by some Chinese rulers starting around the 3rd century BC due to Confucianism (which advocated adherence to the law by education as opposed to using punishment to help extract obedience) resulted in there being even more lack of respect for the law, as many of those rulers chose to also modify the original Confucian ideals to serve their own purposes. It should come as no surprise then that modern-day Chinese would support the death penalty, since they already tried shying away once before and it backfired.
(On a side note, if you live near one of those "Chinatown"s that have a lot of auto traffic running through there, pay a visit and observe for yourself just how little respect many Chinese people have for the law. Where I live, in the nearby Chinatown I've seen Chinese folks who could easily fit their car into a single parking space in a lot but instead choose to park their car sideways and take up 2 or 3 spaces. I've also seen them stop their car in the middle of an intersection within the parking lot for no reason and then stay there for a minute or two before taking any other action such as driving forward, backing up, or dropping off a passenger. Being of Chinese ancestry myself, it makes me disgusted.)
I also see no issue with the quantity of executions. With the world's largest population, we should expect that they would be executing more prisoners than any other country. Looking at it from a perspective of executions per capita (which I think makes for a better statistic for comparison here) and using the estimates (which are higher than the "official" numbers) of Chinese executions which suggest 5000-6000/year, the death penalty seems to currently and historically more prevalent in several other nations, most notably Singapore. Furthermore the number of executions in China should actually be trending downward because their Supreme People's Court (China's highest court) is now taking back one of their original responsibilities of reviewing and approving all death sentences, and current guidelines are more restrictive than in the past on when/if a convict should be executed. Executions had previously spiked up during a period of time in which lower courts could approve death sentences and the Supreme People's Court was required to approve the death penalty only if a case was appealed to it.

That is an overall well-supported message with statistics and years stated for examples. The only problem I have is with the quoted section.
One should not use a micro example like an ignorance of American Chinatown parking etiquette and then generalize it into something truly global like ALL Chinese ignore/disrespect ALL laws in all countries! |

I understand what soultaker777 is saying. My wife and I live right by a university and the Asian community is fairly large. While this is NOT a generalization we have noticed they have a fairly small regard for public laws, safety and general courtesy. Once again this is NOT a generalization, but we have noticed there to be a fairly sizeable amount who act as if they are better than the rest of us who are born and raised here.
I'm talking about 20-30 somethings attending the university and NOT those I have worked with or who are NOT part of the university culture. |
