Ok there are a couple things to remember when it comes to having to beat your opponent in a quicker time...especially when a score can be maxed.
#1: Never go after anything that doesnt pertain to achieving the highscore.
#2: Always be ready to click the start button or the submit button if neccesary.
#3: Study the movements and areas around the playing field in order to find the quickest detour in order to decrease as much time as possible when completing the game.
#4: Memorize the needed movements in order to get past the dangers that can come along the way. (Example: Goombas And Koopa Troopas in Mario....or Barrels In Donkey Kong....etc.)
#5: Pertaining to longer games rather than shorter....making a list of how many dangers or routes to go through during the game can also be very helpful.
#6: MOST IMPORTANTLY!!!! NEVER GIVE UP!!!!!  |

This is so good, I'm stickying it.
I think that you covered it well and can't really add much.
But will reiterate that going for the top ranking sometimes is a combination of the maximum score possible combined with the minimum time taken possible, since our system uses TIME TAKEN as a 2nd ranking criteria after SCORE.
For example, the Mario Boat Bonanza games max out at 99 points, so you must plan carefully such that you reach the 99 points as quickly as possible AND don't get any more points (which would cause the score to rollover) AND already be on your last life left so that you can end the game as quickly as possible after reaching 99.
And as mentioned, start the game quickly as possible, and submit the score as quickly as possible when it's over (for those games that present a SUBMIT button). |

Very well said arcadeboss....those Mario Boat Bananza games can definately be a fine example of having to use all of these steps and combining them to achieve that special 1st place score...  |

| You know another game that is like this is the golf game. I have gotten a -6 in golf and actually in regular golf that would be a terrific score but it won't save the score after 0. So you have to beat the game with a 0 in as little time as possible. I just beat it last night and the previous all time winner had high score for like 40 days. |
