Back in Victorian times, it was widely used by Butchers and greengrocers, as slang communication, they could talk to each other but no one else would understand them unless they knew the lingo (and not many did).
It's like here in the Eastend with the Cockney lingo still going strong.
I am now going up the apples to have a butchers at my barnet in the mirror. |

Thats what im saying lol...not many people understood...its just kinda hard to believe that they couldnt get that so easily lol
