Dawn of the Planet of the Apes rises to the top of the domestic box office this weekend!
It earned an estimated $73 million to take that top spot, exceeding its already high expectations and improving on the $54.81 million start that the original Rise of the Planet of the Apes had back in 2011!
Dawn of the Planet of the Apes exceeded expectations probably thanks to a multitude of factors including rave reviews, the legions of fans of the Apes movies stretching multiple generations, lack of competition and even 3D admission tickets.
