Let's Go To San Francisco by The Flower Pot Men.

I spent all morning trying to find a 60's hits album which includes both this song and also Jennifer Eccles by The Hollies. Absolutely no luck whatsoever. I used to have a 60's cassette which included both these songs - so why on earth aren't The Hollies considered a 60's hit whilst all these albums are filled with songs I've never heard of?

That's nuts.

In the end I decided which of all the 60's songs stuck in my head the most - and it was Let's Go To San Francisco.

So I looked up The Flower Pot Men on Amazon and to my most amazing surprise I discovered that this song actually comes in 4 parts!

Not only does the song have a part 2, but there's also Let's Go Back To San Francisco which also has a part 2!

The short sample snippets of these other parts are very impressive.

So I've ordered their album "Listen To The Flowers Grow".

I think this album is a perfect substitute for a decent 60's hits album.

Rock on.

Gosh, I well remember Let's Go To S.F., but I thought that back then it was completely lost behind the National Anthem of the hippies - Scott McKenzie's S.F. chart topper.

Anyway, (as Mary Hopkins would say) Those Were The Days ! Cool Cool

Although I am a little young to remember 60s/70s music I have taken the time to educate myself. I found some awesome live concerts that, if you have the time, are well worth watching.

Jimi Hendrix live in Stockholm... He actually dedicates this concert to all the American deserters Shocked

The Beatles live in Melbourne 1964

Here is some vintage live Deep Purple from 1972 in New York...

and some Zeppelin from 1970 at Royal Albert Hall...

All classic classic stuff.

And here is some Pink Floyd live in Venice, Italy in 1989 because, quite frankly, you can never have too much Pink Floyd Wink

I find listening to live music gives you more of a sense of how the artist is/was feeling at that time. In contrast, once the tracks get taken to the studio they seem to lose something in the mastering and remastering. I think this is also the reason that vinyl is having such a revival. It seems to capture the 'rawness' a little more and gives you a better sense of what the artist is/was all about.

Cheers!

When I clicked the reply button, I was listening to Your Love by The Outfield, but by the time the page actually loaded, my shuffle shuffled it to Down Under by Men at Work.

I can't complain. They're both classics I wish I could have been alive to appreciate at the time they were released.

Men At Work kicked butt during it's day. I can always remember it being on every hour on the MTV during it's early days.
