It looks like Amusement Journal got lazy again and it may have skipped another month! Here are the lists for the most popular arcade games in Japan:

(The sad part is that BOTH LISTS have stayed the same as they were in May! Rolling Eyes )

Top 5 most popular arcade games in conventional/non-dedicated cabinets:

1. Tekken 6:Bloodline Rebellion
Bandai Namco

2. Mobile Suit Gundam vs. Gundam NEXT
Bandai

3. Virtua Fighter 5 R
Sega

4. Street Fighter IV
Capcom

5. Blazblue
Arc System Works/AMJ

Now comes the list for the most popular games with large/dedicated cabinets:

1. Mahjong Fight Club 7
Konami

2. Mobile Suit Gundam:Bonds of the Battlefield (Ver. B )
Bandai

3. Sangokushi Taisen 3
Sega

4. WORLD CLUB Champion Football:2007-2008
Sega

5. Sega Network Mahjong
MJ4
Sega

So, anyone surprised by any of the titles in these lists? Anyone surprised by the lack of changes in the titles from May to July?

That is all Japanese and Chinese people do and think about is fighting and karate stuff. I have nothing against them, I'm just saying thats about all they do over there.

That simply isn't true! These are lists of the most popular games in JAPAN so it is not even fair to include Chinese players in your statement. I have also noticed that Chinese and Japanese players have distinctly different tastes in games too.

Did you look at the lists carefully? If you did; you would have noticed that MOST of the games out of the ten on BOTH lists aren't even fighting games.

The NON-fighting games are: Mobile Suit Gundam vs. Gundam NEXT, Mahjong Fight Club 7, Mobile Suit Gundam:Bonds of the Battlefield (Ver. B ), Sangokushi Taisen 3, WORLD CLUB Champion Football:2007-2008, and Sega Network Mahjong.

Do the above mentioned games sound like fighting games to you?

No offense intended gary, but I thought most of those were fighting games. More because of the names and my ignorance of gaming in general though.

Most of the top 5 most popular Japanese arcade games in conventional/non-dedicated cabinets ARE fighting games but NONE of the top 5 most popular Japanese arcade games with large/dedicated cabinets are fighting games.

Therefore, it is safe to say that even if you took BOTH lists and put them together; there would be more NON-fighting games than fighting games.

I'm not familiar with those games so I didn't know. I just assumed that most of them were fighting games.

My local arcade has almost all of the top 5 most popular arcade games in conventional/non-dedicated cabinets. I've also done some research on the other games too.

Which of those games are you not familiar with?

I'm not familiar with any of those games except Street Fighter and Tekken, but I never play either one. I played a Tekken game a long time ago. I can't really get into the fighting games that much.

Wow! I'm shocked! Even SlayerInBlood has heard of Tekken! Shocked

This is what Tekken 6:Bloodline Rebellion looks like:

This is Mobile Suit Gundam vs Gundam NEXT:

Since SlayerInBlood has never heard of Virtua Fighter 5 R (please ignore the introductions and the colour commentary; the players are in the middle of an official competition):

I'll skip Street Fighter IV since both you and SlayerInBlood are familiar with the game series.

Blazblue looks like this:

Now comes the arcade games with the large/dedicated cabinets:

Mahjong Fight Club 7

No one can ever really do Mobile Suit Gundam:Bonds of the Battlefield justice in a video because

Quote:
Inside the P.O.D. (Panoramic Optical Display) features a 180° panoramic screen for a full cockpit view of your Mobile Suit. Each P.O.D. station is linked to the central server online, where you play against the opposing teams all over Japan -- 4vs4 up to 8vs8.

Here is a commercial for the arcade game completely in Japanese but you'll get an idea about how immersive the game is:

Sangokushi Taisen 3:

An explanation:

Quote:
Sangokushi Taisen (三国志大戦) is a card-based real-time strategy arcade game based on the Three Kingdoms period of China. The game itself has an input system in which cards are placed on a sensitive playing area. Movement in-game is done by moving the cards on the playing field, and card behaviour on the battlefield depends heavily on the card type.

This game is played one-on-one and online play is available.

WORLD CLUB Champion Football:2007-2008

Please note it uses a card placement system similar to Sangokushi Taisen 3

Unfortunately I wasn't able to find any videos of Sega Network (Battle?) Mahjong but I was able to find this image:

It appears to use a card system to track your progress just like with many other arcade games now.

Woah! Really? Perhaps I can help you then? Which Tekken did you play last?
