Serves you right for listening to it. You wonder why I didn't put any link to it?
It really was a horrendous load of (sorry but there are no polite words). And to think, it made the top ten in the UK. I'm just glad I don't buy chart music any more, come to think of it, I never bought chart music. Rock music has always been my thing and it's never been particularly mainstream over here.

That was just terrible no words could describe it.
I used to think well still do at times just like you, but thanks to online radio stream stations playing my kind of music it helped me discover tons of artists I would've never heard of otherwise. I would just been stuck listening to my 20+ yo faves, bitching that music today is all bull plop.

I guess it comes down to on how proactive you are in finding new music now.

I had this youngster that lived in my complex cool guy some 24 ish kid who I tried to get to listing to old school rap but he wasn't having it. All this guy listened to was someone named Wiz Khalifa. He did have a collection of Michael Jackson and Trance since he was a clubber type like I was at that age but Wiz Khalifa played day and night from his pad and booming out his truck just as much.

He did not expand his music gene like we did when where that age.
Hell I gave classic a shoot during that age and I liked allot of it.

Since I'm on on it shows like American Idol don't sing according to the original formula anymore.
It's cheaper for them to go this route.

The fact is , the music industry as a whole started becoming homogenized over the years and it's pretty much hit rock bottom.

With the industry pretty much decimated (bands used to sell a MILLION copies of their albums right out the gate on the first day)...there isn't any room for people to take a chance on a guy like Jimi Hendrix, or The Beatles, etc.
Incase any bodys wondering what I mean by formula.
it pretty much goes - Does it have a "producer" who comes up with good "beats" and a marketable face on the clown talking and auto-tuning over the "beat"?
Then it's a hit. shame...

Real musicians and real singers who can write songs and know how to actually entertain a crowd without a stage full of "backup dancers" aren't even part of the equation anymore.

Pink Floyd - Welcome to the Machine

Wonder if he or Jimmie would be as popular today as they where then or would they be over shadowed by what mainstream thinks is popular...

I agree there is too much crap anymore. This is why I only listen to classic or oldies stations when I am driving and if I happen to be somewhere where I can not get those stations then I pop in a CD out of my collection. As much of today's music is just crap and I can not stand to listen to it. Luckily my 15 year old even agrees he says my music is the best Cool

One of his favorite songs is this...

Plus he has guitar hero for his x-box and he only gets the legends of rock or classic rock games as he says none of the newer stuff is any good...LOL

He has mastered Barracuda by Heart and says it's awesome and thinks that the song is really super cool. Band

As a matter of fact he asked for Christmas to get the best of Queen and Heart Cd's plus he only downloads Classic songs from I-tunes for his I-pod ....LMAO

I could not get into heart no mater how hard i tried to - Queen great band, Can't believe a lot of people don't know the history of FM.
Bands like Child's Play - Rat Race & Rats - Turtle Dove were great bands as well. Not really classic rock but they aren't passed around much, also i have those links saved in a youtube folder....

Yes Queen was a great band. I never was big on Heart myself either although I think they were very good.

Wow I had not heard those names in a long time Child's Play and Rats. I never really got into them but, I didn't dislike them either. They are still better than today's stuff.

Just to rattle off a few songs/ groups that my son has on his I-POD that he really likes.

Steppenwolf ~ Born to be wild and Magic carpet ride

Golden earring ~ Radar Love

Los Lobos ~ La Bamba

Queen ~ Just about all their songs

Heart ~ several of their songs but, Barracuda is his favorite

Foreigner, Reo Speedwagon, Cat Stevens, Pat Benatar, ZZ Top, Van Halen, Twisted Sister, Judas Priest, G-N-R, Bon Jovi, Poisen, AC/DC, Def Leppard, A-HA, U-2, Boston, Joan Jett, Aerosmith, Eurythmics, Tom Petty, Jimmi Hendricks, Janis Joplin, Prince, The Police, Sting, Blondie, Whitney Houston, Bob Segar, Gorge Thorogood,Survivor, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd.

He has lots more I just named a few.

Now I could name off 100's of groups and tons of songs from these era's and spend days upon days listening to them and do not forget about all the 1 hit wonders that there were too from these era's as well.

As for today's junk I'd be lucky to name 10 groups let alone 10 songs Rolling Eyes

I love Rock-N-Roll Icon_leadguitar

Watching a documentary recently about Queen, I didn't realise that the band almost split up because of We Will Rock You.
Apparently Brian May got the hump because Freddie didn't want the guitar playing all the way through the song. As he put it 'I want people to know when the guitar solo comes in'. Brian wasn't happy but went along with it and as it happens, Freddie was absolutely spot on with his arrangement and the song will always be a classic because of it.
I've always been a big Queen fan but I didn't think much to the stuff they did after The Works. Apart from Queen 2 album, I've got all of them on original vinyl, even Jazz with 'that' poster still inside the sleeve.

The 70's did throw up a lot of classic/legendary bands, some of them from the 60's who only really got noticed in the 70's like Black Sabbath with their paranoid album and, like Lonny mentioned earlier, Pink Floyd. So many great songs by them but I didn't really get into them until the 90's for some reason with the release of The Division Bell but I could sit and listen to Comfortably Numb on repeat for hours now.
Thin Lizzy were another one that never really got the recognition that they deserved although Gary Moore seemed to do alright out of it. (greatest guitarist ever in my book, feel free to disagree)

I listen to pretty much anything as I think all music is better than any TV but thrash metal kind of took hold as I hit my teens and it's something that's stayed with me. Groups like Venom, Metallica, Megadeth, Anthrax and Slayer have now become ingrained into my life, but I'll still listen to groups like Sky quite happily.

Strangely enough though, my Grandson, even though he's only just turned one will always sit still and listen to Johnny Cash. I think it was one of the first things I ever put on for him to hear about eight months back and he still seems quite taken with it. ( yeah, yeah, I'm an old git, grandad and all that. I'm 45 ok, deal with it lol.)

Oh yeah, by the way Lonny, I +1'd you as an apology for suffering Scooter. Really sorry for inflicting that one on you.

They did indeed do good. Always preferred the original artist of a song no matter who might have covered it. The only exception to that is Faith No More's cover of Easy
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vPzDTfIb0DU

It was such a radical departure from everything that they'd had previously set out to do but I think it's the best version of the song to date.

Very good music and musicians ...question to Lonny ...Did I saw Derek Trucks Question also playing with this famous persons ( nowadays Tedeschi Trucks Band , former member of the Allman Brothers Band )....

Also unforgetable ( for me anyway ) this number has a long "intro" actually this number "starts" at 2.20min.. you'll have to listen this with a headset or a very good music-installation
