James Cameron's long-awaited Avatar is king of the box office this weekend to no one's surprise! It may have taken anywhere between ten to fifteen years to bring his vision to the silver screen but it has arrived to great reviews both from fans and critics alike!
It earned an estimated $73 million over the weekend which is second only to I Am Legend's $77.2 million haul among December openings. For those Lord of the Ring fans though; Avatar still ranks behind Return of the King among December openings when adjusting for inflation.
It should be noted though that Mother Nature's wrath may have taken a toll on Avatar's numbers because a blizzard that blew into major East Coast cities like New York, Washington, DC and Philadelphia definitely hurt its ticket sales.

This movie has a really good chance at making more money than The Dark Knight and maybe even Titanic. I predict that it will make more money than any other movie in history. I'm gonna go see it as soon as possible.

i have a prediction this movie isnt gonna sniff what titanic and the dark knight made at the box office |

It's funny but I noticed that the ACTUAL figures show that Avatar made even more money than the estimates suggested it did! The figure was $77 million rather than just $73 million!
Avatar retained its box office crown for a second straight weekend even with no less than THREE new movies opening this past weekend!

Until you started this thread garyoak i must be honest and say i'd never even heard of this film, but having seen the adverts recently on TV it looks like a really good film + i may go and watch it!

Destroyer, that seems like too dramatic of a bet.. I don't think he meant to do you harm.
And I heard it's a kids movie, which I like sometimes, but it really doesn't seem too appealing to me so am not gonna see it (though I've been told the graphics are really cool). |

I already said it was stupid to make that bet, thats old news now.
Also, Avatar is not a kids movie, I have no idea where you heard that from but it's not true. It also has shooting and stuff in it, I don't think a kids movie would have people shooting guns and killing people.
