I wish I knew a lot on this topic, but it's something that I'm very interested in, and i thought i might as well share it with all of you.
Scientists are racing to find out if they can make something out of this, and possibly be the most well known person today (If they can find a way to make us live forever)
All I can really provide everyone with, is what I know, and scientists know right now. So, if your interested about this, read here :
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/earth/wildlife/4357829/Immortal-jellyfish-swarming-across-the-world.html
And, if you find anything else, PLEASE post it here, as I'm very interested. |

My view is that death is what keeps the world from turning into total chaos, but I don't have time to go into such a long debate about that.
Whoever this well-known scientist will be, I'm sure he'll make hundreds of billions off the cure, if he charges for it. If he doesn't, I doubt people will remember him as well.
So does this mean that we'll turn into kids after "mating"? That would be the downside of this immortality thing. _________________ The TGQ is the most fun section of the forums. Why does nobody post there anymore? |

You opened that can of worms and I'd very much like to hear what your thoughts on it are.

There are many well known philanthropists who are of average means. There are many who have above average means and there are several who are well above average means. What it comes down to is giving money to someone who truly needs it and changing their life by doing it. That person who benefited from your generosity will remember you. That's what counts. _________________ When I die bury me face down so the whole world can KISS MY ASS!

Sorry, but this can of worms must be closed for now, as I don't have a few free hours strung together to write something that long.
Maybe in a few days, perhaps, but not now. _________________ The TGQ is the most fun section of the forums. Why does nobody post there anymore? |

Well, you have to think of it like this, If immoratlity was possible, it wouldnt mean that you can't die.. It would just mean, you can't die from old age.
So, you could still die from cancer, ect. but you would live as long as your healthy.
Plus, I highly doubt immortality is possible. |

This is amazing! Also like Ernie said death controls a lot of the things that happen to earth! The earth will overcrowed, most likely a dirtier environment, more babies! We'll porbably have to kill people if the planet over populates! lol anyways thats kinda weird, imagine having a mom or dad that acts like a teenager! _________________

Actually if the world ever becomes too populated people will begin to die from starvation, just like with animals.
Some people think that hunting is barbaric, but if animal populations get out of control each animal won't be able to eat what they should and therefore more animals will die during winter.
This thing with the jellyfish is impossible for humans....The jellyfish reverts back to their baby stage whereas humans have bone and cartilage structure, in other words we are vertebrates. Therefore we can never truly revert back to our baby stage of development. Even if they can prevent our tissue and cells that are similar to the jellyfish from degenerating, our bone structure will still decay. Jellyfish and mammals are just too different. In other words they might be able to make it so that our outer layers look young, but not our organs and internal structure. |

Ahh, correct, but who ever said that it wasnt possible to alter the immortal jellyfish's cells, and DNA, so we can make it so everything keeps growing, and not moving back in age.
But, if this were possible, I KNOW very few people would be able to afford it, and it wouldnt change the population much, because you would still be able to die from cancer, or getting shot (or any other way to die besides age). So we wouldnt be able to live forever, maybe just longer. |

Is it possible to alter the immune system through DNA so that you'd somehow be able to fight off cancer?
I highly doubt that it is, but if it is, Nobel Prize here I come... _________________ The TGQ is the most fun section of the forums. Why does nobody post there anymore? |

Crap. Metroids are real.
Actually this is pretty fascinating. Even if the body couldn't be preserved, it would be pretty rad if they could find a way to preserve our brains, consciousness, memories and stuff. Of course a lot of good it would do to be conscious of the fact that you were basically stuck in one spot forever! Haha |
