Yes, this discovery is a few years old. However, it seems the AB community might not be too well-acquainted with brain-eating organisms outside of sci-fi movies, so I thought I'd bring up the ever-so-deadly Naegleria Fowleri, or amoebic meningitis.
This is among the most dangerous amoebae we know of, and is probably the only one that people have bothered to put signs up for to warn people.
Hopefully every geothermic freshwater source has some kind of warning sign near it, or some alternative way to prevent this amoeba from working its magic (it's unstoppable once inside the brain).
It's a very rare occasion that one would contract amoebic meningitis, but when one does contract it, there's no stopping it, and the way it kills you will probably make it so you aren't even fully aware you're dying.

Thats a scary thought, you may not even know you have been affected by this problem, and it's deadly.
The bottom line, as you said is : Just don't swim in areas that have a warning sign, or don't go in water your unsure about. |

That is a scary thought! I'm scared of even swimming in geothermal pools now that you posted this! I was wondering if theirs any cure since i can't seem to find it on the link? Thanks for informing us ernie!

Well, I doub't a cure would help anyway, because as he said :

Yeah, I'd just say, the only way to prevent this is staying out of those pools. |

It isn't quite common enough for scientists to develop a cure for it, and it kills people too quickly for scientists to study it. If there is a possible cure for this, we probably won't see it for quite some time.
