Anyone here do Sign Language?
I know the full alphabet in BSL (British Sign Language) and a few words, and am planning to get my Level 2 certificate some time this year, which should hopefully get me on the road to interpreting.
BSL is awesome - it's such a cool language. I love languages that are not spoken, which is why I got into web programming, I suppose.
So anyone else here sign? _________________

I used to know this deaf kid who went to my school quite a few years ago, and I managed to learn some stuff from him.
Not enough to understand 100# of what they are trying to say though. |

I do Makaton sign language with the children I have, I have a little 1 year old, and she is fantastic at it. She is not deaf, but I think it helps them communicate until they can start to speak. We can have a really good "converstaion", she tells me when she is hungry, wants a drink, if something is broken, please, thank you. all sorts of things ...she is brilliant |

That's useful.
I find sign language quite easy to be honest. I first learnt the alphabet when I was just 15 years old and it stuck with me ever since.
Just this evening I have learnt over 20 more words at first glance and I expect by tomorrow I will still remember 80% of them. _________________

I only know a couple of basic words. Thanks, please, asking the name and things like that. I would like to know more. |

Well it's now tomorrow and I have realised that in actual fact, last night I learnt 45+ words and remembered at least 40 of them!
Still crap at Maths though. _________________

I took a sign language class as an elective in my afterschool program growing up. The only thing I really remember is, rattlesnake lol
I really wish I could've retained that knowledge, along with other bits and pieces of languages I've picked up throughout life.
I didn't realize though, that there are different ''languages'' in sign language as well! That's a pretty neat fact |

A great thing I've discovered is that some words have more than one meaning, or with a slight tweak to the movement can mean something else.
To some this may sound complicated, but it depends on your point of view. In turn, I find it is good because I learn 3 or 4 words in one.
For example "From" and "About" are very similar only a slight twist to the hand produces "From". Because they are both related by sign, I find one will remind me of the other and become ingrained into my conscience easier.
Anyway back to studies. Received my BSL Bible the other day, over 1100 pages long! _________________

Absolutely. If you can spell out words then that is conversation in some form at least. _________________
