I know mine sucks but, for this area it's actually pretty good. Unless I wanted to go with hughesnet via SAT. and pay 10x the price Exclamation

that's funny. I guess that's what I get for living out in the country to far away to get anything else. But, I only pay $34.99 a month which is not bad beats dial-up. Yes hughesnet are crooks to go with them through the sat. dish they told me $ 179.99 just for the bare minimum then if I want to upgrade to higher speeds then the price increases and yes if you go over the download speed on your plan then you get charged extra. So I'll deal with what I have now.

179.00 and i thought 80.00 was allot back in the early covad dsl days back in 2000..

it was a night and day with the switch.

what I have is DSL up to 8 mb upload and 1 mb download. They are going to put in FIOS soon which they said when they get to my area then I can switch and I would get close to double the speed I have now. Icon_pray

I seen the name Lighthouse before closer to Columbus but, not around here as I am 68 miles from Columbus. But hey I saw that 20 mpbs for 29.99 they have advertised might be worth a call to see if they can provide it though.

no prob. as far as i remember dsl needs a local telephone network. hopefully you are close enough to the nearest public switched telephone center.

heck the technology has been around for over 10 years so?

i just checked out https://www.dslextreme.com
seems i can't get the trueSTREAM service but i qulify for anyone of their 4 package deals. highest being 6.0Mbps. That too low if it was 15 or morn then i may do it just to save a few dollars per mo.

I hope I am close enough to the switch it would be nice. But, then again I sure love the peace and quiet where I live and what I have works just fine for me so no big deal if I can't get it.

Too bad you couldn't get that stream but, then again I don't miss living in the big cities too many things are monopolized like you said.

Pretty sad with all this technology that everyone could not get the same speeds for as long as it has been around.

Today is a good day for speed (if I want to surf locally)! I have a 5Mb line, and that is what my local server is giving me:

Sadly, as soon as I want to visit a site outside the Philippines, the speed suddenly drops to about 50Kbs. Rolling Eyes

By way of example, after that 5Mb speedtest trial, I just tried to access a random game on AB (it happened to be Bloons Christmas Expansion), and it took a full TWO MINUTES to see the 'Play Game' title page. During loading, the speed ranged from 8Kbs to 29Kbs (I use Codebox BitMeter to keep a constant eye on my internet speeds).

All hail the mighty PLDT! (That's Philippines Lousy Dial Tone). They proudly state on their web page: "HOME DSL plans run at a minimum speed of 150 Kbps at 80% service reliability." Erm... wow... so I pay for 5Mb ... I am guaranteed 150Kbps with an uptime of 80%. Believe it or not, they are not even the worst providers here.

By the way, I pay the equivalent of about USD56 per month for my (so-called) 5Mb line. Evil or Very Mad

wow i figured the Philippines woujld have a better connection then that untill i read that
Philippines has the slowest internet speed in the entire Southeast Asian region

Reading some of the "useful" comments it seems they are promising speeds and misleading users.

Who would you complain to in the PH on this?

South Korea: fastest internet
North Korea: What's internet?
