| If we still are concerned about oil and all the other stuff and not astronomy (which will likely happen), then it's a good chance that we won't even begin to think about going to another planet and start looking for one that's suitable for us. |

| I believe that probability of finding life on another planet with current technology is remote. Necessarily must exist but I suppose it is likely a huge distance at which we can´t arrive for a long time. The fact that life exists on earth is like a miracle, the exact distance to the sun is what allows us to have perfect climate for species that have been developed as complex as ours. |

Considering the rate at which telescope technology is improving and considering that the US military are currently researching positronium propultion, a form of propultion that could get us to Mars in a day, I wouldn't be suprised if we soon manage to put a telescope in orbit around stars like Gliese 581 and look closer than ever... ultimately discovering extraterrestrial life.
