|
|
I've heard a lot about how the Internet could be restricted in recent years. Barry Diller surprises me in this article though because he seems to think the Internet will become a paid service in the near future; like within five years! He seems to think the only thing missing now is a good billing service.
Here is the article:

What do you think of Barry Diller's prediction? |

I don't think much of what this man says. I read part of one of the reply's on that blog. I thought the same thing how can he come up with a paid system. I pay for 20+ domains I own. I pay for 3 different web hosting 2 are yearly 1 every 6 months paid for on the dot. I pay for the software + content that goes these sites of mine. I pay for the traffic to these sites. I also pay for my share of the cable broadband since I'm living with folks right now. If one really thinks how can the net be free we all pay to get on it some how.
This mans off his rocker, fell off the rocker hit his head bounced back into his rocker, Then cam up with all this.
Besides if something like this happened their goes 1/3 of AB members and whats the fun in that.
Would AB start a mutiny? I certainly hope so cause Id be on that mutiny train myself if it ever came down to it. _________________ Don't Google it, Just Bing IT!

Internet is a free service? No it isn't! I agree its not what he means but we still pay line rentals ... and obviously they can't make us pay to blog and stuff ans it violates our right to free speech... |

Yeah I've heard lots about the end of the internet, whether it be more charges and even censorship, controlled by Virgin, homepages dissappearing and becoming a commercial platform only...
But the people will stand against it. _________________

Very interesting article. (Thanks, Gary )
I agree to an extent that that's the direction we are heading - but to us "ordinary blokes" I really don't see too much impact.
Given that one obviously must pay an ISP for initial internet access, I don't see anything else that MUST be had or paid for.
Sure, even now I'd quite like to watch MLBaseball, major tennis and rugby league games, Formula 1, etc online, but unless I pay, I can't.
So ? That's just like good ol' pay TV - if u WANT it u pay, but if u don't wanna pay, there's always something quite good AND FREE elsewhere.
I reckon because of its nature the internet is, and will continue to be, a FREELOADER'S PARADISE! |

I completely agree with you on that one! I guess I'm just pleasantly surprised that this topic I posted almost a month ago is only now being read by the rest of you! I always thought the lifespan of a topic even on this forum was only 1-2 weeks unless they were bumped up by spammers.
I know it's a freeloader's paradise because I'm sure when Windows 7 gets released; some software pirates will crack its security and then distribute it online like the previous versions of Windows.
Was that what you meant by a freeloader's paradise? |

I agree with most of the above comments but like lonny says the internet isnt really free anyway with all the add on fees for hosting etc.
What that clown diller is basically saying is the same as if you subscribe to cable tv and you pay your subscriptions etc you then have to pay again to be involved! - he needs to crawl back into any random hole he can find! |

if you really think about it the internet isnt free at all i pay for internet now as is and if you recieve wifi in most/some areas it is free but take for instance at starbucks you have to pay to the server a fee of 10 bucks for a day pass? just for one day 10 bucks? thats a bit high but alot of areas are free like different resturants or hospitals malls and things that go into eatterys and such have free excessable wifi points. but even then they will have a waiting fee comming shortly!
and i also agree lonny id deffinately would start a riot! we had to shut down our online radio site because the fees were outstanding! but that would be messed up if they deleted the internet world or made everything be charged in a fee but everything usualy is! if you really sit down and think about it and theres no way in hell they will get rid of the internet the govenerment uses a big part of it so does airlines if we had no internet there wouldnt be communication and also the world would be a disaster if you think we run misstles off of onboard communicational censors so if they ever decided to get rid of it we would be screwed! |

Don't believe too much of that. It's like trying to repeal medicare, we will revolt if that was the case. |
