its an HP desktop , it has windows xp home edition
when you start up the computer it comes up with a black screen
that says : missing operation systems
press any key
after pressing a key it says this:
reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in
selected boot device and press a key
when i try the recovery disks it starts the first one trying to make
a partition with ntfs files and then says it cannot make a partition
and cannot complete recovery. then the black screen comes back
after about an hour of this i lost my mouse cursor and cant do ****.

I had an HP desktop that did that exact thing. Meant the darned thing was dead. A buddy of mine who's a tech/computer geek couldn't get it going. He said the best use for it was to hold garbage from blowing away at the dump. _________________ -2nd Person to Join

Take it to a computer shop and get them to give it a fresh new hard drive with operating system. Shouldn't be too expensive if you're only putting a cheap copy of XP on it.
However, it may prove to be that it still won't work for some other reason - I doubt it, but there could be something wrong elsewhere perhaps with the mother board.
That's all I can suggest. _________________
