Superman intends to give up his US citizenship, a story in the new issue of Action Comics declares.

"I'm tired of having my actions construed as instruments of US policy," the character says in a story that sees him flying to a Tehran protest.

Adopted by an American family, Superman decides he is better-off serving the world.

Though he only talks about his plans to give up citizenship, the story has been criticised by commentators worldwide.

The superhero, originally from the fictional planet Krypton, does not clearly renounce his citizenship in the issue.

There isn't any reason to panic just yet:

Superman is the great american superhero, how can he give up his American citizenship. Moving to another planet means that his citizenship is not the issue, just his planet of origin which also remains the same. And didn't Krypton blow up before he came here? Very Happy

If superman was real, i would completely respect his decision. Right now he's pretty mucha tool lol. But ig uess it's a good thing that he wants to help more than just the U.S.

I agree with these statements. That is probably why he even raises the possibility of giving up his citizenship.

It sounds to me like if the US Government has crept into the comic book to take some kind of credit for Superman's activities and stuff then he has a legitimate cause for complaint. Sounds like a weird topic for a children's comic book though.

Superman has been around in comic book form since 1938. Perhaps they're running out of ideas? Rolling Eyes
