Rise of the Planet of the Apes rises over the competition!

Rise of the Planet of the Apes rises over the box office competition this weekend to emerge with the 5th best August opening of all time! The movie received the second most number of positive reviews among films opening this weekend with 81% on the Tomatometer so the critics certainly seem to like it as much as its audiences! As can be expected from a long-running science fiction film franchise, it was viewed mostly by older (56% over 25) men (54% male). The film made an estimated $54 million in the domestic market this weekend.

The Smurfs held onto second place thanks in large part to the fact it appealed to an entirely different demographic than Rise of the Planet of the Apes.

I have only seen a trailer of this film so far and it looks much better than the origional films did.

I hope they bring a few of these films out rather than it just being a one off.

Planet of the apes looks like a bad movie to me, I'm honestly very surprised at these results.

So lets see they first did this movie back in the 60s I think then later in early 2000 with Mark Walberg and now this release...guess they are going to keep going until they get it right.

I liked this movie better than the one with mark wahlberg, the 1st one you really cant compare because they are in a different era of movie making. I actually liked this movie a lot, the story line,plot,acting and FX.

I am just amazed at how this movie turned out. I haven't seen it yet but usually movies like this don't get very good reviews. It's been a long time since I've been this surprised about a movie.

I think it is a great idea. I can't wait to see it. I hope it is done well. FYI, the smurfs was great.
