2012 Contest Note [Prize Update]

I am considering a change to the monthly contests this month, and perhaps for some months to follow. I know how hard our honest members work to place so it is important that we let you know about adjustments to the monthly cash prizes as soon as possible. What those changes are exactly, has not been decided, but reducing or dropping the monthly prizes for a while is what is on the table. The main reason for this is that the money attracts cheaters which place a heavy burden on the site in that they create a lot of work for the site staff, can add an unnecessary level of distrust between legit players and generally gunk up the contest.

Wow AB. It sure does sound like a double edged sword scenario...The prizes are what make this site unique from a lot of the other gaming sites but with money involved it brings in a few of the unlawful. If you eliminate/reduce the prizes the unlawful leave but so do some of the law abiding members. It appears however that some of the good members have left already most likely because of the inappropriate gaming strategies used by other members. It appears that you are up the proverbial polluted estuary without a visual means of propulsion. (How am I doing so far for stating the obvious). I don't really have any suggestions other than I personally enjoy the site and money or no money I would continue to come back.

What a way to have to start the new year.

Excellent idea AB - ANYTHING that can discourage che@ts here is always a plus.

There are a select few that can normally spot members that che@t and I am sure they are always watching Wink

EDIT:Just had a thought - maybe prize money could be reduced so any che@ts would think it is not worth the effort anymore?

after reading master of puppets reply,i sat there and thought what be the best response.

i have been on here since october 2008,and not until this year did i started playing for money.

im not interested in the cash per-say,playing on the site without getting anything proves that.

that said,as i have said before,the money is a bonus,and for me its playing the games and furthering my skills on them.

as MOP has stated,i would still play on here money or no money,and i hope that this issue does not inflict unwanted grief here,as the majority of gamers here are fair and equal.

if anyone wants to makes real money,then there are plenty of casinos and poker sites to jump on.

it would be real shame if a mindless few spoilt it for everyone else comes on here to enjoy themselves.

im sure the staff on here will do what is right for the site to move forward and im sure has the support of everyone who loves arcade boss.

I have been a member for nearly a year and when I first started playing I didn't take any money at first either. Although it is nice to get it and it's like a bonus. It's a shame that it attracts the cheaters and ruins it for all the honest people on here.
Maybe add another MOD or two to help ease the burden off the one's that we have would help ? And have them concentrate on 1 thing like the cheaters. Just an idea or my opinion. It's a tough call Arcade Boss it is your site and you have the final say in the matter.

I for one like the ideal. both my wife and i play on the site we enjoy playing against each other and not for the money ( even tho winning a little cash every once in a while is cool). i know most of the games can be manipulated either by using cheat codes or by changing the settings of one own computer.

as for the codes that can be used i don't know how to fix that however for the other is there not a program that will omit any score that has been made by either slowing/speeding up ones CPU?

i do have a suggestion to help also with those that have won many games in the past year or so. i know my name has been on the leaders board a lot so it is not me being selfish because i can't win. perhaps if AB would make one of the boss tourneys only for those that have won nothing or less than say $10 in the past 3-6 months this will perhaps stop some of the cheaters because you cheat one month then you can't win anything for 6 months also if you are honest and play for the fun of playing then no loss if you are here just so you can win cash then that's just to bad for you.

i would say the only boss tourney i would leave as is is the poster of the month. that is because everyone has the same odds of winning. make the other two boss of the month for those that have not won more than $10 in the past 3-6 months this way those that are here having fun and play honest can perhaps win some and those that are here and win numerous tourneys either by way of codes or other cheats can only win 2 times a year and perhaps by then some better way of dealing with cheaters can be found.

I like to play for the honour of a highscore, for example with yetisports,
and I have fun with a whole lot of other games... also it is funny to read the messages and watch some video's in the forums and sometimes sending a message to another player

that's all, I still would play, also when there are no prices or credits at all !

p.s I don't like people who are cheating ( how can you do things like that ?
it tells me only in what way they are standing in this live/world )

@carltontx - I understand the idea you are putting forward but for me personally - I have been here over 3 years and won more cash prizes than anyone but have never che@ted and proved that on more than one occasion but because some have/may che@t I would be included in their group.

I still think allowing glitched/glitchable games as eligible for cash prizes is the bigger problem here.

Anyone che@ting can more often than not be spotted but glitching a game is not playing that game the way the programmer intended or is it fair to other honest gamers and leaves them frustrated to say the least as this is allowed!

i said it before and I will say it again.
get rid of the money and rest assure others will leave.

its got to be a burden to keep up especially unless your making more cash then the average joe.

if it was up to me id make premium membership and keep the freemium that way it evens out the playing field.
and those that are real game players can / will benefit
then if the player is caught cheating you for-fit winnings and roll it over till the next month.

i wouldn't mind paying 5 a month or 50 for the year fee.

it will keep the riff out.

I think the money prizes should have been gone a long long time ago when joe first suggested it. I find this place not as fun as it use to be. I love the competition. When cheaters/glitchers/whatever take over games, those games are no long fun to play. Money attracts those kind of people = get rid of the money and hopefully the fun will creep back in the site. That is my opinion anyway.

there is one thing that AB could do i don't think has been thought of yet and that would be REQUIRE that any score gotten by using a code or a glitch be posted in a forum for that game. any glitched used and not posted to the forum would cause all winnings for that month to be fore fitted and would put that player in the cheaters list for 6 months where they can not win anything for that time period.

i only say this because like many people have pointed out if the cash goes away many players will leave and if this is done then the playing field would be leveled for all players. so if you use a cheat to get your score you have to publish that cheat for everyone or you lose plain and simple.
