Well really no bet but what do you all think?
It's gonna attempt the 7 min of terror / landing tonight.
Will it stick the landing or crash and burn?

I have no idea to be honest. The project is:
A) The most complicated, sensitive and precision based ever.
But...
B) Getting confident support by its developers.
So considering the failure of previous attempts and the success of others. I am going to lay down a 70% chance it lands and continues to operate successfully.

I hope it lands safely, but it's a hard ask.
I just watched the video on the news showing how it slows down, with the parachute and rockets.
Very impressive.
I see why they have labelled it '7 minutes of terror'
My bet is it will land, but not safely

| I think it will land and take some damage but it will be fully functional and working to their needs, the damage it will take won't be that extensive. I'll give it a 85% chance of landing with minimal damage, and 15% chance of total failure and a mission scratch. |

Everything went according to plan.
The sky crane brought it down safely.
They also said they have a least a minute of live footage of the landing.
Images takes 14 minutes to reach earth so it could be a good week to get a nice set of them..
I can't wait to see them myself.
Next mission Nasa should try titan or jurupa moons that will be a great mission for the books as well.

I don't think it's a waste of money or resources. We went to the moon and what does NASA have to show for it. Nothing but a bunch of tang commercials in the 70's. If we would of stayed the course we would of been on our way of of the solar system by today.
As for resources who's to say Mars, Jupiter or any other rocky planet don't have rich minerals, richer then gold and platinum combined which can be brought back and used for future uses.
So I say it's worth it.
It took the us gov. to slash half of NASAs budget that put a spark under ther bums to get something going again.

Well I would agree, but only to an extent. I do feel that considering what we know about Mars already, it isn't really the prime candidate for an interplanetary search for the "new and wondrous".
We know that Titan is far more interesting and even Europa. Sending Curiosity to Titan would have been far more useful and interesting in terms of discovering life and rare minerals.
That said, we do need to prepare a safe haven for mankind should something terrible happen and I think Mars is the prime candidate for the first interplanetary manned expedition, where we will set up bases for people to live.
So, it's debatable.
Seriously, this planet isn't immune from catastrophe and so it is only logical to explore the solar system in preparation for an eventual migration.
