New Template

Our logged-in members will be seeing our new streamlined template, which reworks the header and footer areas of most pages. The new templates are smaller in source code and image use, so pages should load faster and games should even run a smidgin' better without the flashing gif image we previous used competing for graphics cpu.

Also we are introducing a new page http://www.arcadeboss.com/play.php which is now linked from the "ARCADE" button. The old arcade page is now linked from a new "CATS" button, for categories.

The new templates are currently for about 90% of the pages that a logged-in user will come across. We'll complete this after further testing of the templates. Let us know if you like it, or not and if you have any technical issues with it.

forget the shout post i just made just seen this thread. good job on doing all this.btw will ab ever offer users a option to change the back ground color.. Example! Black -> White. Vice versa.

^that page has a win 8 look to it but with smaller tiles you cant move.

in this screen 17 in. they look cramped. will check it out on 22's in a bit.

Yup, I definitely like the new, smaller "Arcade Boss" logo within the red outline

Not sure I like the new 'tiled' main page though. It looks a little confusing and crowded, but there again my eyesight ain't what it used to be...
Glad to see the "Cats" link has been introduced to cater to folks like me, who like the category listing.

I quickly played half a dozen of my favourite games for testing. All the pages loaded fine, and the games seem to play exactly the same as before. No complaints there, because I was happy with it before as well!

Good job, AB, it's good to see that you are always looking for ways to improve the site for existing members, and for new players!

I think the new header is exquisite! Shrinks the, er, "waste" space at top to absolute minimum while still leaving it unmistakably distinctive, and utilitarian.

As for new footers I have to admit I notice no difference.... though guess I haven't seen that search box down there before. (I wonder if it's for searching "arcade" or "forum" ? )

It's a definite improvement in my opinion. Everything does seem to load faster but I do still prefer the old front page but that's purely because it's familiar rather than something new.

Just an additional observation, after a couple of days of playing:

I definitely miss the old 'Logout' link that was previously at the top-right of each page.

To logout, we now have to scroll to the bottom of the page, which is a bit of a nuisance if it is a long page of forum posts/topics.

Any chance we could have a logout link at the top as well? It looks as though there is just enough space, if 'Cats', 'Prizes' etc are shifted to the left a bit, and a logout link added to the right of 'Prizes'.

Does anyone else have an opinion on the current logout link placement?

Strange how we all have different views.
I'm the only one on my computer so I NEVER logout - in fact it took me quite a few moments to even find the logout link you mention, msidoh.

Having found it though, I'm confused that while the page where I'm typing this post at the bottom shows:

I noticed where the logout was didn't think it was a big deal as as i too stayed logged in all the time on all my PC's.

Yes the change is transitional. Some pages may temporarily still appear like before.
