Bloomberg News had this bombshell to say about the Heartbleed encryption bug:
Quote: | Indeed, the NSA actually used the encryption flaw to gather intelligence, according to Bloomberg News. |
...but of course:
Quote: | The White House denies that is the case.
"NSA was not aware of the recently identified vulnerability in OpenSSL, the so-called Heartbleed vulnerability, until it was made public in a private sector cybersecurity report," a national intelligence official tells CNN. |

If you needed further motivation to change your passwords in important stuff, then do it.
the NSA has been utilizing the giant security vulnerability known as the "Heartbleed bug" to gather information about Internet users for years,
Bloomberg also reports
It seems we have gotten to a point now in our own lives where most people have their head up the bum and dismiss stuff like this as if it's Lonny talking about it then Lonny is a nutter conspiracy Chicken Little syndrome type of guy, until it comes true then those people are surprised and take it.
People are so in to T.V. internet, Not much reading and all the while this stuff happens and people will say, Well if I am not doing anything wrong then it's Ok ....
How wrong these people are. _________________ Don't Google it, Just Bing IT!

Lonny I think you are right....
Last days here in the Netherlands, there were some issues about "Heartbleed" but very late in the evening in a program at a time that I was thinking...ok, very important but most of the people are already to bed
Now I have gotten a warning from McAfee Internet Security...
here below I copy a part of the warning....
Some Internet companies that were vulnerable to the bug have already updated their servers with a security patch to fix the issue. This means you'll need to go in and change your passwords immediately for these sites. Even that is no guarantee that your information wasn't already compromised, but there's also no indication that hackers knew about the exploit before this week. The companies that are advising customers to change their passwords are doing so as a precautionary measure.
Although changing your password regularly is always good practice, if a site or service hasn't yet patched the problem, your information will still be vulnerable.
Also, if you reused the same password on multiple sites, and one of those sites was vulnerable, you'll need to change the password everywhere. It's not a good idea to use the same password across multiple sites, anyway.
We'll keep updating the list as new information comes in. Last update: April 12, 10:30 p.m
And then they come with a long list of Social networks like Facebook and Instagram...Pinterest and Tumblr...which belong to the biggest...but also
Companies like Google and Yahoo , Gmail....Amazon Web Services, Flickr Youtube
maybe this is useful Also from McAfee...

you run your own server, do you run your own webhosting or with a webhosting company? if not then why are you updating your password and for what? _________________ Don't Google it, Just Bing IT!

While that didn't answer my question it is essential to changes P/Ws this bug affects a back door that was left open and no one closed until the news broke out.
Heartbleed is a protocol for calling into an SSL certificate.
You buy stuff online you look for https.
PayPal has it when you go to their site, amazon has it when you check out, this indicates a secure server.
Heartbleed was acting as a missing protocol that caused vulnerability where sensitive data from sites like Facebook could be accessed.
Heartbleed affected “Open SSL” secure socket layer not to be confused with Open Source.
I run 4 servers. I have a media server, file sharing server. print/email server and a proxy server.
My email server is the one i look after the most as it contains 3500 emails with personal data from paid customers to a site I run.
All double opt in so I wont be accused of stealing and my users want to hear back from me.
Now if that info got out I lose my customer base and it could take a year or more to get back to where I am at.
I don't want to go through all that. _________________ Don't Google it, Just Bing IT!

It's probably time the NSA does some rebranding. Instead of the National Security Agency it could be the American Software Snooper agency. |
