Alright. Now that I've been on the site for a couple of months, I can give a better list of favorites. Here they are, I did not take the time to order them...
astro-panic, bomb jack 2, cubedelic, flametry wars, gun run, heli attack 2, moon patrol, neon 2.5, pepsi pinball, tastes good, time pilot, tree phul phang and vector TD2.
You should definitely try these if you haven't already. They're all great games, and I'm glad that this site introduced me to them. |

The big question regarding the Vikings is whether or not Favre can play well in the playoffs after the toll of an entire season as been inflicted on his body. He's holding up a lot better this season, because Minnesota's offensive line has protected him so well, but he did seem to falter in his last game.
This week's performance will be very telling, because if he doesn't bounce back, things could be very bad for the Vikes in the playoffs. If he looks good, I put them in second in the NFC behind the Saints. |

In response to ICBM... I don't want to deprive anyone that likes neverending games of the ability to play them. I'm just really interested in how people feel, so appreciate your comments.
I'm starting to put into my strategy to note which games can be high scored for the month quicker than others, because getting involved in a battle for a neverending game can take away a lot of time I could be spending on other games.
As long as its good clean fun, and people don't get angry at each other for battling over long-play-time games, then I guess its cool.
However, my strategy will be to get good at shorter games, and hopefully high-score-of-the-month more of them.
Let's keep the discussion going. What do other people think? - S. |

I've written on the forums earlier about how I think my experience on this site could be improved, and I've mentioned how there are certain games that I think should be taken away because they are too easy, and I can play them indefinitely.
Keep in mind that a lot of these games, I had attained the high score of the month on, so I was really only hurting myself in a way. Someone responded that if someone was willing to spend the time to get a high score, that they deserved it.
I counter that the opposite is true. If someone only gets a high score, because they are willing to spend three hours on a "game", their only reward should really be that they wasted some time in their life! I don't think you can consider an endless activity a game, its more like a task. Its like work that you put yourself through, for minimal gain.
Take Sushi Dash for example. I've hand a back and forth battle with Lonny on that game, and I finally stopped playing it because a. my time in my life is more valuable than spending two plus hours trying to beat his score and b. It actually starts to feel more malicious and personal when you do take away someones score in a game like that.
When you take away an "endurance game" score from someone, you're basically saying that the two hours that they spent before are now a waste of time, and that if they want the high score back, they're going to spend even more time getting it back. At that point is not "I'm better than you at this game", I feel like its more like saying "I don't like you, and I don't want you to have this score."
There are a number of games like Bugs and Tree Phul Phang, that do take a while to play, but THEY DO GET HARDER! It just takes a while to get there. There's nothing wrong with that.
But lets take away the games that never get tougher. Our time is more valuable than that, and it will keep the vibe better on the site. - S. |

My prediction for the Super Bowl is the Saints over the Colts 31-27. It would be amazing if they were both undefeated going into the Super Bowl, and judging by the Saints play and their schedule, its a possibility.
Potential threats to this matchup are the Vikings in the NFC and the Pats, Chargers and Bengals in the AFC. I really like Cincinnati this year, they could've folded after losing their best defensive player (Antwan Odom), but they haven't missed a beat.
I would also love to see the Titans make the playoffs. After their terrible start, Vince Young has this team on fire.
The Pretenders? The Cowboys aren't nearly as good as their record, and neither are the Packers. I think that Atlanta will have a tough time even making the playoffs, and the Giants and Steelers are in huge trouble. The Ravens have a good team, but lose too many close games to be considered.

Its good to have faith in your team, but its another thing altogether, to be an egomaniac and completely out of touch with reality. Belicheck didn't even admit that he was wrong in the press conference that followed. He said that he had confidence in the play and basically that he would do it all over again. There was enough time on the clock that even if he got the first he would probably need to get another one.
In short my opinion is...
Its great to have that much confidence in your offense, Bill, but maybe you shouldn't show a complete lack of faith in your defense! ; - S |

Thank you for showing me that, Kiwi. Unfortunately, it doesn't quite have the functionality that I was looking for. I would like to be able to click on the number of monthly wins and see what the games and scores were. I could then use this as a guide for the current month.
Another good suggestion might be to put "Last Months Winning Score" on each of the game pages, along with the current monthly, and all-time records, to show people what a strong score in each game might be. - S. |

What was crazy was that Sony said originally that "This Is It" was only going to be in theaters for two weeks! I didn't believe that for a second! Now that its been as successful as its been, they announced that they are going to "extend" its run. Big surprise.
THe movie that I'm most anxious to see is "Black Dynamite." Its supposed to be a very funny film in the style of Shaft, Superfly and other movies of the 70's. The reviews have been very good, so I have high hopes. They say that its funny, because it doesn't try to be; its got more subtle style. I'll let you know what I think... - S. |

I also think that it would be great to see prior BOTM results. I don't think that it would be that hard to create links to them. Does this already exist? it seems like it would be straightforward and well received. - S. |

Forum: Arcade Boss Games Posted: Mon Nov 02, 2009 8:06 am Subject: non BOTM-eligible games - nomination for a vote |
Thank you very much for taking the time to respond! I'm glad that we are all close to the same page. I agree that #1 isn't implementable, and doesn't work for the games that were mentioned, like the Tower Defense games, and others. I guess my point has raised a good issue, and its tied to #3.
Now that we reached a good number of games on the site (2000+) as mentioned by Kiwi, maybe we can make some of them non BOTM eligible. They don't even need to be taken off the site. That would be a way of fixing the problem of broken games, poorly scoring games, and the games that are too easy, and just a matter of how long you want to play them.
I think that the majority of the games would be absolutely fine, and we should be conservative about the ones made ineligible, but why don't we come up with a few nominations, and see what people think?
I nominate Marie's Diamond Quest (broken graphics), Scrabble Blast (a smart player will never lose), and Astro-Blast. (way too easy, and I'm the all-time champ, so I'm not being self-serving). What would you nominate? |

I'm a huge fan of this site, and love the wide variety of games available for free play. Since I haven't been here long, I have a fresh take on the experience. The following are some suggestions that I have to improve an already great site. Please keep in mind that they may be idealistic, best-case-scenario type things. I realize that they may be tough to implement, but would greatly enhance the experience of play.
#1 - Set a time limit on all games. I recommend 20 min. That's long enough for a player to represent their skills. This is an issue because there are some games where high scores are less about ability, and more about how much time one is willing to invest. Getting a monthly or all-time high score shouldn't be a game of chicken between players, as far as who is willing to play the longest. There are games which are easy enough to play indefinitely, so this can be a problem. However, if a 20 min. time limit were added, and bonus points awarded for remaining lives at the end of the time period, even games which the player wouldn't die in, would be become more skill based, because it would be a competition of which player was more efficient during the allotted time.
I realize that having an allotted game time would possibly bring in CPU speed issues, but it would still make Arcade Boss better, if it could be implemented well.
I'm a game designer, and I always try to implement this concept in my designs. I haven't made anything in years, but I'm hoping to get back into it now. I'll let you know how that develops. Maybe I could have a game on here one day!
#2 - All-Time High Score Durations - Should be changed to be player based rather than individual score based. This is a change that could be possible, because I'm guessing it might be that hard to pull off. Here's my point...
When I look at an all-time record, and see that its been held for over a hundred days, I know its a good score, and the player deserves some prestige for it. However, if the player then beats his own score, it resets, almost encouraging the player not to replay that game! Having the all-time high score read "Held by Player X for Y Days" makes more sense, because then the player could improve upon his score, but yet still show that he has been the top player on that game for as long as they have been. I doubt too many players would disagree with this, but tell me what you think...
#3 Remove games which don't work. Arcade Boss now has the luxury of having hundreds of games on it, so it doesn't need to hold onto ones which don't quite work properly. It is bad for the Monthly Boss competition that there are games which have the same value as others, which are not playable by all. For example, the Marie's Diamond Quest game, doesn't work with new versions of Flash, giving players with an old version of Flash an advantage. I don't see people downgrading their Flash anytime soon, for the sake of one game, but maybe the game should either be fixed or removed.
Tell me what you think of my suggestions, and let me know about yours. I'm sure that improvement suggestions have been discussed in the past, but I think its always a good idea to regularly brainstorm about new ones. Take care, and see you on the game grid! - S. |

I've only been on the site for a month, but my goal is to be a champ like Neeraffa. Congrats, on your October win, by the way!
Abbalover recently asked for tips on how to be a stronger player. My first piece of advice would be to find games that you feel comfortable playing, and making them part of your game arsenal or your "turf". These should be games that you both enjoy playing, and that you play well. Ideally, they should also be games that do not take overly long to play, so that if someone attempts to reclaim your monthly high score, you can play again to take it back.
By reclaiming your high scores when they are taken, you will show that you are serious about being the monthly champ on that game, and may frustrate your rival and cause them to move on to another game. If players think that they can beat you and you won't respond, they will be more encouraged to try.
Choose games that you can achieve or nearly achieve the all-time record in. That way when people are choosing a game, they will be less likely to go after yours, since you will have a top score with the all-time score as a frame of reference.
Use the "favoriting" option to help you remember what your turf is.
Good luck, and tell me what you think! - S. |

I just broke the monthly twice on Run Jerry Run, and got two zero scores. The game always starts at a normal rate, and then gets progressively slower. Does this game eat up memory, and then lose the ability to send a score? I'm sure a better computer on my end would help. I'm just wondering whether or not this ever happens to anyone else. Thanks. - S. |

I'm using Safari, and it only submitted my score the first time that I played. For some reason, whenever I start a game, and I hear a commercial going on the background, but I can't actually see it, the submission bug goes hand in hand. |
